Shizuoka United S Summer 2024. Available late May from Gaia Flow Distilling Shizuoka Distillery. Features, pricing, and details.

The “S series” is a single malt whiskey blended with the original whiskey made from two types of pot stills, K and W, which are the hallmarks of Shizuoka Distilling.

United S” was created following “Contact S.” This is a seasonal edition, beginning with the first edition and continuing through the summer and winter of 2023.
The ingredients are a luxurious blending of non-peated and peated malts from overseas and plenty of Japanese barley. First-fill bourbon barrels are used for aging.

2. single malt Japanese whiskey Shizuoka United S 2024 Summer

United S” was created following “Contact S.” It is a seasonal edition, starting with the first edition and continuing with the summer and winter of 2023. The main ingredients are non-peated malt from overseas, peated malt and malt for beer, as well as barley from Japan. The barrels used for aging are mainly first-fill bourbon barrels, but various other types of barrels are also used.

The “S Series” is Shizuoka Distillery’s standard item, and its name is derived from the timing of its release. The alcohol content is a solid drinkability, and the house style is carefully selected and blended without compromising quality, aiming for “an easy drinking experience that will never get old”. We are in the process of releasing more and more single malt Shizuoka so that you can experience the “individuality and characteristics of single malt Shizuoka” through our editions. The number of matured bottles is gradually increasing, and we are increasing the number of bottles shipped with each release to make it an especially accessible single malt from the Shizuoka distillery that can be enjoyed on a daily basis.

3. Distiller “S

And the redistiller “S” is the third distiller of Shizuoka Distillery. The first distillate produced by the first distillers “W” and “K” is distilled a second time in the state-of-the-art plate-heater pot still “S”.

After more than three years, the whiskey is blended with the different characteristics of the original spirit, and the product is ready to be sold.

The first bottle of the “S Series” was released as “Contact S”. From the second series, it has become “United S”.
The evolution from the first encounter (Contact) to the fusion (United). The “W” and the “K” are the house style of the Shizuoka Distillery, and the fusion of the two different types of sake is what brings out the best in each of them.

(1).Whisky Galore Vol.29 December 2021 issue

In the December 2021 issue of Whisky Galore, published by the Whisky Culture Research Institute, we report on 11 Japanese craft distilleries, including some that are open to the public for the first time, under the title of “Japanese Whisky Craft Frontline,” the first of three consecutive issues. This is a book written by Mamoru Tsuchiya, a world-famous whisky critic and representative of the Whisky Culture Research Institute, titled “Japanese Whisky as a Culture that Works for Business” .
The book covers the basics of whisky, the introduction of whisky to Japan, the birth of Japanese whisky, advertising strategies and the rise of Japanese whisky, and the current rise of craft distilleries. This is a book that summarizes Japanese whisky in a very easy to understand way.

(3). Whisky and I (Masataka Taketsuru)

Masataka Taketsuru, the founder of Nikka Whisky, devoted his life to brewing whisky in Japan. This is a revised and reprinted version of the autobiography of a man who simply loved whisky and talked about himself. The book vividly depicts the days when he went to Scotland alone to study as a young man and overcame many hardships to complete Japanese whisky, as well as his companion, Rita.

(4). A Letter of Challenge from a New Generation Distillery

Launching in 2019. With the world experiencing an unprecedented whisky boom, what were the managers of craft distilleries thinking and what were their thoughts as they took on the challenge of making whisky? This book tells the stories of 13 craft distillery owners, including Ichiro Hido of Venture Whisky, famous for his Ichirose Malt, who inspired the birth of craft distilleries in Japan.

(5). Whiskey Rising

This is the Japanese version of Whisky Risng, published in the US in 2016, with much updated content. Not only does it describe the history of Japanese whisky in detail, but it also includes data on all the distilleries in Japan, including the craft distilleries that have been founded in recent years. The book also includes descriptions of the legendary bottles that have been released, as well as information on bars where Japanese whisky can be found.
