The first blended whisky from the GUILTY GEAR x Saburomaru Distillery collaboration will go on sale December 21. Sol Bottle & Ky Bottle will be sold by lottery from December 14.

Saburomaru Distillery, owned by Wakatsuru Shuzo, will release whiskey in collaboration with the “GUILTY GEAR” fighting game series developed by Arc System Works, Inc.

2-1. GUILTY GEAR 25th Anniversary
Blended Whiskey 25th Anniversary Bottle

This blend incorporates the speed, freedom, and unique image of Guilty Gear’s fighting game characteristics.

[Aroma]
Cheerful woodiness reminiscent of orange and coconut, with a hint of chili pepper. The vanilla aroma gradually fills the nose, followed by caramel and cocoa.
The sweet aroma of caramel, cocoa, raisins, etc. is gradually brought out.

[Taste]
Woody, gentle sweetness, thick malty aroma, caramel, and orange oil. The aftertaste is spicy and lingering.
The lingering aftertaste is slightly spicy and lingering.

[Comments]
Woody and cheerful elements brought by bourbon style grain whisky, and each has its own unique flavor.

Single malt SOL=Badguy ver.

This cask selection represents the character of Sol=Badguy, who is seemingly blunt and rugged, but at heart he is thoughtful and warmhearted.

[Aroma]
Woody and spicy, with a strong top note. The nose has complex and deep elements of berry jam, dried figs, leather and oil paints.
Smoky flavors with a hint of dried bonito flakes drift into the profile.

[Taste]
Rich, powerful, and mellow on the palate. Raisins with branches and
Ripe figs, cloves, anise, and other sweet yet spicy elements. The smoky finish is deep and long.

[Comments]
A barrel with a rich and powerful aroma that is as rich and powerful as its eye-catching deep red color.

2-3. GUILTY GEAR 25th Anniversary
Single malt Ky=Kiske ver.

The batting of the original sake is based on the image of Ky=Kiske, a man who respects discipline but has the flexibility not to be bound by it.

[Aroma]
Ripe fruit nuances with a sense of transparency and fullness.
Biwa (loquat), persimmon, white grapes, and kiwi.
Gradual custard-like sweetness. Smoky flavor like grilled straw underpins the wine.

[Taste]
The same fine fruitiness as the aroma.
The taste is mellow and mild, yet powerful and malty.
The lingering finish has a smoky flavor with a hint of white pepper.

[Comments]
A mellow and refined original flavor with a clear and fruity oak flavor. A combination of two casks that stand out for their noble aroma.

3. About Saburomaru Distillery

Saburomaru Distillery

The only distillery in Hokuriku established in 1952.
Amidst the postwar rice shortage, the distillery obtained a license to produce whisky in 1952. Since then, they have been brewing sake in winter and distilling whisky during the rest of the year. They make 200 bottles of whisky a year. Plans are underway to make 300 bottles in the future.
Since the beginning, they have been focusing on smoky whisky, using Islay peated malt and recently peated malt from Toyama Prefecture. In order to preserve the natural flavor, no cooling filtration or coloring is used.

In 2018, we installed a state-of-the-art mash tun from Miyake Seisakusho.
In 2019, we collaborated with a local company, Oigo Seisakusho, to develop a cast pod still, “ZEMON”.
In 2020, one wooden fermentation tank was introduced.

The major difference from other distilleries is the use of theworld’s first cast pod still “ZEMON”.

There are three major features.
(1) Casting method enables molding with a mold and quick delivery. Also, sufficient wall thickness can be added at a low cost, and a long life of the body can be expected.
(2) Free molding by the casting method enables a variety of sake qualities to be achieved. Also, by unitizing the parts, it is possible to replace only worn parts or expand the functions.
(3) Made of a copper-tin alloy containing approximately 90% copper and 8% tin. Tin is a high-grade metal that is traded at about three times the price of copper.
Tin has been used since ancient times to mellow the taste of sake and has been used in sake vessels and shochu coolers. ZEMON contributes to theproduction of high quality spirits through the dual effects of copper and tin.

4. About GUILTY GEAR series

The GUILTY GEAR series of 2D fighting games continues to attract many fans with its high competitiveness, exhilaration, and sense of speed created by a sophisticated game system, and has remained popular.

The first title was released in 1998, and the series has continued to develop with a total of more than 20 titles, celebrating its 25th anniversary in May 2023.
