1.THE STORY OF KANOSUKE
JAL sympathizes with the origins of the Kanosuke Distillery and the passion that goes into the creation of its unique whiskey, and with the desire to bridge the gap between Kagoshima and the world, JAL is proud to present two new products: Mellow Codzuru Excellence, the rice shochu that Mr. Kanosuke II challenged the world with, and the five-year-old Single Malt The set includes two bottles of Kanosuke THE STORY OF KANOSUKE(*) and a tasting glass as “THE STORY OF KANOSUKE” JAL Limited Edition.
(*) Aged for more than five years in American white oak litchi casks where “Mellow Cranes” was stored, and bottled directly from a single cask, this is the one and only rare whiskey that concentrates the characteristics of “Kanosuke Whiskey”.
Tasting Notes
The color of the whiskey is a reddish amber like the sunset from “THE MELLOW BAR” on the grounds of the Kanosuke Distillery. When poured into a glass, sweet aromas of apple, cinnamon, vanilla, and caramel, just like baked sweets, rise up. In the mouth, sweetness reminiscent of milk chocolate and the oaky flavor of litchi casks swell, and a faint aromatic flavor of hojicha tea wafts over the palate. The bitter citrus notes are followed by a long, sweet finish with the freshness of green apples.

2.About Kanosuke Distillery
Location | 845-3, Gannokawa, Hiyoshi-cho, Hioki-shi, Kagoshima 899-2421, Japan |
Start Operations | 2017 |
The Kanosuke Distillery stands on a site of about 9,000 m2 along Fukiage beach on the west coast of Kagoshima Prefecture.
The U-shaped, two-story main building houses distilling facilities, a bar with a great view, and a store selling original goods.
The main feature of the distillery is that it is equipped with three pot stills (large, medium, and small). Each has a capacity of 6,000 liters, 3,000 liters, and 1,600 liters, respectively.
Craft distilleries (small distilleries) around the world generally have two stills. Whiskey is usually distilled twice, and by using pot stills with different shapes of necks and angles of line arms at the top during the second distillation (redistillation), the aroma and flavor of the original whiskey can be changed more richly.
Fukiage beach, where the distillery is located, is one of the “Three Great Sand Dunes of Japan” and has been selected as one of the “100 Best Sandy Beaches in Japan. The beach stretches about 47 km from north to south, and strong winds blow in from the sea surface, shrouding the area around the distillery in a white mist of fine droplets from the sea. It is hot in the summer and cold in the winter, with temperatures near zero degrees Celsius, and snow flurries are not uncommon.
