[New Distillery] Bottlers Company “BEHIND THE CASK” Announces the Establishment of Its Own Distillery

Independent Bottlers.
“BEHIND THE CASK,” a so-called independent bottlers company, announces the smallest whisky distillery project in Japan in Hakodate, Hokkaido, on June 6, 2023.
Official details will be revealed at a joint press conference on June 12.

“BEHIND THE CASK,” an independent bottler, is based on the concept of “whisky served by a sommelier,” and its most distinctive feature is that the whisky is placed in a wine bottle and corked.
The wine bottle was adopted as a concept to let people know that whisky can be enjoyed in various ways, just like wine, depending on how it is aged in the bottle, the glass used, the temperature, and the method used to bring out the changes in the original whisky.
The white label and the appearance of the bottle are so good that it could be mistaken for a wine bottle.
The first bottle will be released in August 2021.

The most recent collaboration with TERU of the Hokkaido rock band “GLAY,” whose first solo exhibition, “Visualization of Sound,” attracted a great deal of attention.

2. What is an independent bottler?

A group of people who buy whisky from distilleries or whisky brokers, who specialize in buying whisky barrels, and combine (blend) whiskies with their own unique blend is called an independent bottler.
Independent means independent or unaffiliated.
In Scotland, the exchange of original whisky is active on a daily basis, and there are many bottlers’ companies, and many private bottles and original bottles are released.
In Japan, the bottlers business has become more active in recent years due to the popularity of whiskey, and T&T TOYAMA and Drumrad are well known.

3. Summary

It has been a long time since Japan was said to have a shortage of sake.
It is precisely at this time, when there is finally a movement to exclude fake Japanese whisky, that Japan’s sensitive blenders are struggling daily to deliver delicious whisky to us as “world blended” whisky, including various types of whisky that are still dormant around the world and those that have not reached their peak flavor yet and are difficult to handle. The rush to establish new distilleries continues.
As the rush to establish new distilleries continues, we look forward to June 12, the day of the joint press conference, with the hope that the “Dee Tripper Distillery” will deliver to malt liquor lovers a whisky worthy of its pure white label.
