2. Single Malt KANOSUKE SHERRY CASKS VATTED Characteristics

Fruity single malt with a dense aroma of sherry casks .

A limited edition of KANOSUKE’s flagship “Single Malt Kanosuke”, glamorously decorated with sherry casks.
In pursuit of a mellow KANOSUKE-like expression of sherry casks, this limited edition uses an abundance of original sherry aged in Oloroso and cream sherry casks.
Shochu casks, which bring the spicy “Japanese” nuance that is the core of KANOSUKE, and new American white oak casks were also added to the essence.
Aromas of dark cherries and a rich flavor reminiscent of fruit-filled pound cake.
On the palate, the mangosteen-like tropical fruitiness that gently spreads on the palate brings a gentle aftertaste like a seaside sunset.

5. About Kanosuke Distillery

Kanosuke Distillery started operation in 2017.
It stands on a spacious site of approximately 9,000 square meters along Fukiage Beach on the west coast of Kagoshima Prefecture, dotted with various facilities. The U-shaped, two-story main building houses distilling facilities, a bar with a great view, and a store selling original goods, allowing visitors to experience Whisky distilling up close.

A major feature of the Kanosuke Distillery is that it is equipped with three pot stills (distillers). Each has a capacity of 6,000 liters, 3,000 liters, and 1,600 liters, respectively, which is the norm for craft distilleries (small distilleries) around the world. Whisky is usually distilled twice, and Kanosuke Distillery uses pot stills with different shapes of necks and angles of line arms at the top during the second distillation (redistillation), which enables the distiller to create different types of original Whisky with varying aroma and flavor.

There is also a grain factory called Hioki Distillery, which is now the second distillery. Originally a shochu distillery that produced Komasa Shuzo’s signature product, the “Kozuru” series, “Komasa Gin” was also made at this distillery.2 Following the Kanosuke distillery, the Hioki warehouse will obtain a license to produce Whisky in 2020 and begin producing grain Whisky. Whisky distilled at Hioki has already been sold.

7. Lastly.

This year’s Kanosuke was blended under the theme of “melt-in-your-mouth sherry.

It has a mellow sweetness that is typical of Kanosuke, as well as a tropical fruit-like aroma and a pastry-like pound cake flavor, making it a recommended bottle for first-time straight drinkers.
